M&W Transportation continues with the U.S. EPA SmartWay® Transport Partnership
Nashville, Tennessee – M&W Transportation today announced that it has received approval for their current data submission to the SmartWay® Transport Partnership, an innovative collaboration between U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and industry. The SmartWay Transport Partnership provides a framework to assess the environmental and energy efficiency of goods movement supply chains.
M&W Transportation will continue to contribute to the Partnership’s savings of 379 million barrels of oil, $52 billion on fuel costs and 162 million metric tons of CO2, 2.8 million short tons of NOx and 114,000 short tons of PM. This is the equivalent of the annual electricity use in twenty-four million homes. By joining SmartWay Transport Partnership, M&W Transportation demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.
“We are grateful to be part of the EPA SmartWay program. With now over 50 years in business we desire to be good stewards of the creation that God has given us. Working with the SmartWay program and our customers, helps us to better see and understand our data so we can choose power units, trailers, and shipping lanes going forward.” Said Zechariah Pugh III, Director of Marketing.
Developed jointly in early 2003 by EPA and Charter Partners represented by industry stakeholders, environmental groups, American Trucking Associations, and Business for Social Responsibility, this innovative program will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024. Partners rely upon SmartWay tools and approaches to track and reduce emissions and fuel use from goods movement. The Partnership currently has 4,000 Partners including shippers, logistics companies, trucks, rail, barge, and multimodal carriers.
