How Much Does It Cost to Go to Truck Driving School
A career on the road. For some it sounds ideal and driving a truck seems like the best way to go. Not only is it a great fit for you, but the truck driving industry is aggressively looking for new drivers because of the current shortage. Great! Win, win! What do I need to do?
It’s Time to Head to Truck Driving School
As soon as someone says school or training, one of the first questions they ask is ‘how much?’ A little research can help you get prepared and will help ensure your finances are in order to get started.
Tuition
Most trucking schools charge a one-time fee to cover the entire training course. This is different from traditional schools which break up education into regular parts, such as semesters. But there are exceptions to the rule. The overall cost will vary typically from $3000 to $7000 depending on the school you choose and also the type of license/training you are going for.
For many, that amount of money will seem like an expensive barrier. However, since it’s the total cost of the education, it actually is a lot less when comparing to traditional schools where you may attend for two years, four years, or more to get a degree. Getting you CDL can be done in a matter of weeks and then you’ve knocked out the biggest obstacle to start earning money right away. If a life on the road appeals to you, then it’s a great investment.
Options for Funding Your CDL
If the cost is still a significant hurdle for you, then you should pursue one of the many financial aid options. Some schools offer scholarships and grants to truck driving students. Some schools offer G.I. bill funding, workforce assistance if you are unemployed, or even accept payment plans. In addition to CDL financial aid options, some carriers will offer to cover part, or in some cases all, of your education costs if you agree to sign with them.
